THE Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open continues to grow in stature each year as it has managed retain all their sponsors from last year, while adding more to their bulging list of corporate partners despite the biting economic challenges the country is going through.
Sponsored to the tune of R1,8 million, the Zimbabwe Open is set to tee off from April 9 to 12 at Royal Harare Golf Club.
Insurance partner Alexander Forbes and anchor sponsors Old Mutual were presented at a Press conference hosted by the Zimbabwe Open Golf Committee (ZOGC) at the world-renowned picturesque yesterday as the new partners to have joined the bandwagon of the corporate community to be part of the premier golf event co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour.

REIGNING champion Jake Roos says he won’t be expecting too much when he attempts to become the first golfer to defend the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open title since its return on the Sunshine Tour schedule in 2010.
Roos tees off in the first round at the picturesque Royal Harare Golf Club this morning alongside compatriots James Kingston and the in-form Ulrich van den Berg.
Speaking just before starting his practice round in the traditional
Pro-Am yesterday afternoon, Roos said he was not setting high targets for himself.
“I have not set a lot of expectations for myself this week. I’ve just come to enjoy the course. It’s looking great and the greens are as good as ever,” Roos said.

FOLLOWING an impressive display at the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open in April, the country’s leading junior golfer, Sean Crocker, hopes to make a good impression at the prestigious United States Junior Amateur Championship on Monday.
The 66th annual event, held by the United States Golf Association, helps determine the best junior golfer in the country and previous winners of the coveted title include current world number one Tiger Woods.
Crocker, who turns 17 next month, will be the only Zimbabwean in the field for the tournament set for Martis Camp in Trucker, California.

ZIMBABWE professional golfers, who have been starved of competition on the local circuit, will resume their rivalry this weekend when they tee off in the Open Classic tournament slated for Wingate Golf Club on Friday.
The 36-hole event, which has a prize fund of $10 000, is being sponsored by the Zimbabwe Open Committee and is the third event on the local tour after the Pre-Open Classic, the Chairman’s Cup and the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open held at Royal Harare Golf Club in April.
Tendayi Gwatiringa, the Zambezi Tour’s marketing and communications director said all was set for the Open Classic and entries for the tournament had been closed.

SOUTH AFRICA’s Jake Roos rallied from behind to hold off his compatriot Darren Fichardt and Italy’s Francesco Laporta to clinch a nail-biting one-shot victory in the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open at Royal Harare Golf Club yesterday.
The 32-year-old golfer, who trailed the leading pack by four shots heading into the final round, birdied three of his last six holes including an audacious chip-in birdie on the difficult par-three 15th to card an impressive final round five-under par 67 to finish on 13-under par 274.
Fichardt and Laporta, who had gone into the final round carrying a three-shot, struggled on the front nine before rallying back to finish on 13-under-par 275 although they had a chance to force a playoff on the par-four 18th.

HARARE — Marc Cayeux shot a three-over-par 75 in the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open pro-am this week and it took as much courage as all of his nine Sunshine Tour golf titles combined.
He used a crutch throughout his round, and got around the course on a golf cart, but those 75 shots came at a painful price. “It feels good, but the pain I go through is the hard bit,” he said, and he’s not even sure that will recede. “I’ve probably got two more operations to go and I’m hoping they will take a lot of pain from walking, and making it a whole lot easier to walk and play 18 holes.”
